Baar-Baarenfels Architects from Vienna received the European Property Award this year. On the evening of 11 December 2020 a symbolic award ceremony was held in London. The Viennese architect Johannes Baar-Baarenfels accepted the award through the video conference for his project "House for Petroleum Engineer."

The internationally renowned real estate award recognizes companies from all sectors of the immobilization industry's highest achievements. This year, the prize was awarded for the 27th time. "My team and I are greatly honored to represent Austria in this project internationally," said Johannes Baar-Baarenfels.

Modernity meets Baroque

Baar-Baarenfels renovated and extended a baroque house with contemporary architecture in a small town near Vienna. To achieve low energy house / passive house standards, Baar-Baarenfels improved the physical properties of the building. The customer and his experience with housing in Arabian countries have given the idea for a new interpretation of the courtyard. This type of building was once widely used in Europe and is almost forgotten today, despite all its advantages over the 'modern' single-family house, which allow density while offering the highest degree of privacy.

The project details

The spa on the ground floor features a sauna and a damp bath and offers a body and mind relaxation area. Powerful pillars and structural divisions create a contemplative environment under the surface of the water. The jacuzzi and the pool are separated by a calcareous wall and a seat and create an impression of timelessness. Visually, the vaulted ceiling raises a relatively low ceiling.

"The staircase is a hybrid calcareous and steel structure. Traction is counteracted by steel rods when pressure is exerted by the stone, which reduces its mass and maximizes its elegance, "Architect Baar-Baarenfels says. Architect. The living room is open to the atrium and leads to a large two-story living room.

Awards for European Property

The European Property Awards are part of a global series of awards for outstanding properties. Awards are given in continental Europe and in the UK, the USA, Canada, Central and South America, the Caribbean, Asia-Pacific, Arabia and Africa. The award is presented in 45 categories in the areas of development, architecture, interior design and property. A jury of 80 experts decides each two years on the regional winners who will be nominated for the International Property Award.

Symbol Residence, a residential elite complex on the Limassol coast built by Golden Wisdom, an investment group member of Elena Baturina, was also awarded the European Property Awards 2020 Grand Final.

Symbol was declared the absolute winner in two prestigious nominations in December: Cyprus High Rise Architecture Residential and Cyprus Development Marketing. The final stage in the prizes is the title of Europe's best, and the results will be known in February next year.

Representing Cyprus at a previous European Property Awards 2020 phase, Symbol Residence has won five nominations including the best apartment-capacity project in Cyprus, the best residential high-rise project in Cyprus, and the best high-rise residential building architecture in Cyprus.

Symbol's design has been developed by renowned Spanish architect Ricardo Bofill and his Taller de Arquitectura studio. It offers 17 apartments, underground parking, health, spa and fitness areas, leisure areas, swimming pool, private garden, concierge facilities and safety facilities on the coast of Limassol.

"We appreciate the international recognition of our team's work. For us, this project is particularly important – we have worked hard to design and build a new gem for Limassol in view of the architecture developed in the city skyline and the advantages of the area, with the utmost comfort in mind for our future residents; "Andrey Stolyarov, Symbol Residence Managing Director, says.

Elena Baturina regards the development as an outstanding architectural element: "The volumetry of the symbol creates the impression that the building moves in four directions. The project was created for people and the magnificent landscape of Limassol. The apartments were designed to make you feel like a separate private residence rather than a multi-apartment building. You also have direct access to the beach – all of this makes Symbol an excellent development in the skyline of Cyprus."

The investment group of Elena Baturina has extensive project management experience in development and construction. Its interests include commercial and residential real estate projects in different parts of the world, hospitality in Ireland, the Czech Republic and Russia, the Italian and Greek renewable energy business, the German membrane technology engineering firm.
